Jane Jacobs: Urban Ideas

The exhibition is based on Jane Jacobs and the Future of New York, organized by The Municipal Art Society of New York. That exhibition was supported by a grant from The Rockefeller Foundation, a fund that had also supported, in 1961, the publication of Jane’s influential book The Life and Death of Great American Cities.

In 1968 Jane and her family moved to Toronto, where she wrote six major books with a focus on cities. For this exhibition in the UrbanSpace Gallery, we have added some Toronto examples that illustrate the ideas featured in the original New York exhibition.
