Nuit Blanche Toronto Urbanspace Gallery

Nuit Blanche 2019: #401BuiltforArt in the Urbanspace Gallery

Built at the turn of the 20th century as a lithography factory, 401 Richmond Street West is a historic warehouse in downtown Toronto that is now a thriving cultural hub and home to some of the city’s most engaging artists, designers, producers, micro-enterprises, galleries, festivals and retailers.

One of Toronto’s key arts centres, 401 Richmond Street West is a must-see destination for locals and visitors alike.

The behaviour of 401 Richmond is such that it’s in a perpetual state of reconstruction and revelation as it endeavours to spotlight the many situations, conventional and otherwise, in which art and artistry can happen.

Located on the first floor of 401 Richmond, the Urbanspace Gallery was created to explore the city. A venue for diverse exhibitions and events, the gallery investigates how cities work, how we might improve them, and how we can learn from the past to create visions of the future.

Presented in partnership with Nuit Blanche Toronto, Built for Art is a curatorial initiative exploring the personality of place and the role that this ubiquitous address plays as artistic advocate and cultural guardian.

Throughout Nuit Blanche Toronto’s 12-hour spectacle, 401 Richmond and the Urbanspace Gallery will be teeming with dynamic and interactive exhibitions, installations and performances created by home-grown talent and by artists from as far away as the Canadian Arctic.

Two floors of creative exploration await Nuit Blanche Toronto revellers for a unique experience that both highlights a diversity of cultural practice and showcases the iconic address that continues to transform Toronto’s cultural landscape.

On October 5th at 6:59 pm, 401 Richmond transforms into a one-stop, high-energy artistic experience representing a synergy between on-site galleries, tenant artists, and the broader arts community – all under one roof!

Stay tuned for a list of the engaging and entertaining programming taking place in the Urbanspace Gallery during Nuit Blanche.
