TOO FUN by Leala Hewak

Urbanspace Gallery presents TOO FUN, a multimedia exhibition by Toronto-based artist Leala Hewak exploring the Ontario Science Centre (OSC), the doomed playhouse, brutalist masterpiece designed by Raymond Moriyama in 1969.

The potential destruction of the Ontario Science Centre, a building Hewak has been visiting for years, impelled her lens-based survey of the building and the people who use it.

“I heard the Ontario Science Centre was in danger, so I rushed to capture its joys — just in time”, The Toronto Star, June 29, 2024, Photography Feature by Leala Hewak

Book Launch: TOO FUN by Leala Hewak, Thursday, October 24, 5 – 8 PM, in the Urbanspace Gallery

Join us for the launch of TOO FUN, the large-scale photo-book accompanying the exhibition. TOO FUN explores the OSC through 150 photographs of Hewak’s family outings to the centre in the months before its closure. The book also features text excerpts from Moriyama’s own design notes anticipating the creation of the building in 1969.
