The YES IN MY BACKYARD festival is back!
The YIMBY Festival’s focus is to create a fair-like atmosphere where people working or interested in citizen-based community development can gather to exchange ideas as well as strategies, and to celebrate the achievements of their respective organizations.
This year for the one-day only event, we are partnering with the City of Toronto to use several of their Toronto History Museums sites so that we can respect the COVID-19 guidelines.
We have a hybrid festival with online programming as well as socially distanced gathering outside. The online component will run from 11am to 1pm, and weather permitting, there will be pop ups at the Toronto History Museums sites from 2pm to 5pm for the in-person component.
The opening talk of the YIMBY Festival will be an introduction to our new program, EyeCity. EyeCity is a forum for exchanging ides on global city building. The opening conversation will be with Lena Phillips, Sibonelo Gumede, and Tareq Khalaf from the Africa Centre for cities in Cape Town South Africa. They will share insight into the benefits of bringing an international lens to city building conversations about community engagement and activism.
